Trixie Mattel & Brian Firkus: Two Birds

May 2, 2017 in Photography

Today is a very exciting day for country music!  Currently, my collection includes legends such as Dolly, Johnny, Hank (1 & 3), Patsy, and Loretta; as of today, Brian & Trixie join these master crooners!!!!!!!  I am SOOOO excited to promote the release of drag legend Trixie Mattel/Brian Firkus‘s FANTASTIC new album, Two Birds, now available on iTunes!!!!!!  As always, it was such a pleasure collaborating with the AMAZING Trixie on this super fun conceptual shoot!  Inspiration for the album art was drawn from 60s and 70s country albums with a little bit of “Green Acres” thrown in there too (so in love with those sets & Eva Gabor <sigh>!!!). Trixie is the kind of client I throw out all the stops for-this includes taking a machete to the park, asking the ex-husband for a favor, and bringing into the studio tall grass (I’m highly allergic to) with fragile fuzzy plumes that shed EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!  Don’t worry, I survived and I’m thrilled with our collaboration; check out our awesome new pics below and go give the album a listen!:)

Happy Father’s Day!!! (subtitle: If Trixie Mattel had daughters)

June 16, 2016 in Photography

I think it only makes sense to start out a Father’s Day blog post by telling everyone my dad is THE BEST (my mom too of course!)!  I am truly lucky to have amazing and supportive parents who constantly encourage me even when my ideas might be a little crazy!:) 🙂 🙂

Trixie Mattel/Brian Firkus and I are constantly brainstorming fun ideas for new photographs and we both wanted to honor dads this month.  The idea of shooting Brian as a non-Trixie character was too good to pass up!  After some extensive research, I found the perfect family of triplets for us to foster.  May I present Jackie, Roxy, and Dolly – 3 tough little gals that are looking better than ever after their trip to the hair salon!  Our set was inspired in part by the television show Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood; I LOVE the details like the window frame with no window and the house plant behind it!:)  I wonder if my parents realized how much the “Neighborhood of Make-Believe” was going to influence my life!;)  Happy Father’s Day to all of the awesome dads out there (especially mine!!)!!!

Our Lives Magazine, January 2015: Brian Firkus, the creator of Trixie Mattel

February 26, 2015 in Photography

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)  Trixie is going to be on TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)  This Monday, March 2nd on Logo TV you can watch Trixie compete on RuPaul’s Drag Race (Season 7)!!!!!!:)

Patrick Farabaugh, of Our Lives Magazine, literally made my day when he sent the email asking if I was interested in photographing the fabulous, Trixie Mattel!!!  Brian Firkus is the creator of Trixie and a photographer’s dream: model, hair & makeup artist, and costume designer all in one!  We talked about incorporating Brian’s hair & makeup talents into our concept which made me think about the Barbie Stylin’ Head I always wanted as a kid-my parents never bought me one because they knew I would have immediately chopped the hair off and cried!  The Doll Collector image was inspired by my Great Aunt Alda who used to display her collection of dolls in her bedroom, just out of my reach from me and my scissors!:)
